Keeping Your Teeth Clean While Away from Home

BY East Cobb Family Dentistry

Most of us have brushing and flossing in the morning and night down to a habit, but an informal survey of our patients has shown us that only a few of you are brushing while you’re at work or school.Your Marietta dentists at East Cobb Family Dentistry would like to change that by offering you a few easy ways to keep your teeth clean while you’re away from home.

Keep It Small

Adding a habit can be a difficult thing to do and it becomes more difficult when you feel like you are calling attention to yourself.Instead of using an electric toothbrush or full sized manual toothbrush, use a travel sized toothbrush and toothpaste that you can easily carry in your pocket and keep in your desk drawer, briefcase or purse.

Be Discreet - Or Don’t!

Some people feel uncomfortable brushing their teeth in front of others, and likewise, some people feel uncomfortable when other people choose to brush in front of them.If you feel this way or are worried that your co-workers might, it’s OK to be a bit more discreet about your after-meal brushing by cutting the time down. If this isn’t a concern for you, brush for the full 2-3 minutes and be proud—after all, you’re taking great care of your oral hygiene!

Remember, Something Is Better than Nothing

Our endodontists in Marietta, Ga., encourage you to remember that something is always better than nothing when it comes to cleaning your teeth while you’re away from your home during the day.If you can’t get a full brushing in, consider keeping a travel-sized container of mouthwash easy to access for a quick rinse after lunch. If neither of those things is an option, try to rinse with a little water and chew some ADA-approved sugarless gum.
