PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE

BY East Cobb Family Dentistry

One of the best and effective ways in order to achieve optimum oral health is to seek preventive dental care. Preventive dentistry is referred to as the practice of keeping the oral health protected from oral health diseases by making sure your teeth and gums are healthy and are in good condition.Suffering from oral health problems can be a real headache because it can cause pain, and discomfort and it will also require costly and time consuming dental procedures. These are the reasons why it is important to stay on top of your oral health and make a conscious effort in preventing them.Dentistry has evolved over the years and there have been so many breakthroughs due to the advancement in technology. There are now so many ways to address each and every possible dental problem. However, the saying that prevention is better than cure never grows old. Why would you have to spend a great deal of money for dental restorations when you can do something to avoid oral health problems? Why do you need to spend hours for dental procedures to save your teeth when there is always something you can do in order to take good care of them?

In order for you to stay on top of your oral health, here are some tips you can follow.

  • Proper brushing. Brushing may be a very basic routine but it is an essential part of the good oral hygiene that should never be missed. Brushing should be done twice daily with the use of a fluoride toothpaste. However, if you get the chance to brush after every meal, that would be a lot better. Also do not use hard bristled toothbrush and choose the soft bristled ones so that you do not cause damage to your gums.
  • Flossing may often times be neglected but there is now better time than now for you to start flossing. Brushing cannot do all the work when it comes to cleaning your teeth especially the spaces between your teeth. Only a dental floss can reach these areas. Flossing can help you avoid many oral health diseases especially gum and periodontal diseases.
  • Eat nutritious and well-balanced diet. The food and drinks you eat and drink can impact the health of your teeth. You should limit your consumption of starchy and sugary foods and instead switch to the healthy one especially fruits and vegetables and the dairy products that are rich in calcium. Calcium is an essential mineral that strengthens your teeth so they can fight off cavity causing bacteria. Also eat apples, celery and carrots because these can also help clean your teeth, so it is best to snack on these foods instead of those that are rich in sugar.
  • Visit your dentist regularly. Regular dental visits are important because this is how your dentist can take a look at your dental condition to see if you have existing oral health problems. Early detection is helpful so that you can get treatment for potential oral health issues before they even happen. It is during your dental consultation that your dentist can provide you education and increase your awareness on how you can better provide care for your teeth. You can even ask your dentist to perform and oral cancer screening for you during your dental consultation so that you can get a peace of mind that you do not have this life threatening disease. The screening is very simple and not painful, so it is very easy to have it.

Maintaining good oral health can help you in so many ways than you imagine. You may not just realize it but it can also give a positive impact on your overall health. Aside from that, you will also feel a lot better and much more confident when you know that you have a beautiful and healthy smile. Having a good oral health also helps you stay away from some life threatening conditions such as stroke and heart diseases. It does not require a lot to keep a good oral hygiene. You just have to stick to brushing, flossing, eating the right foods and visiting your dentist regularly and you are on your way to achieving optimum oral health. For more information on good oral health, call East Cobb Family Dentistry at (770) 913-6800, or visit us at 2969 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30062
